Designing the Future of Parking Intelligence

By Kulvir Kang. Director of Product

When I think about the future of parking, I don’t picture tickets, tariffs or barriers. I picture information: live, connected, decision-ready insight that helps people and places work better together.

That’s the journey Intelli-Park is on: from enforcement to intelligent management. Our goal isn’t to react faster but to predict smarter, building systems that anticipate what’s next and help clients act on it. This keeps them ahead rather than just keeping up

Our story began with UK Parking Control (UKPC) in 2004, an enforcement business built on clarity, consistency and a network of highly trained operatives. That model worked well and is still one of our shining lights today, delivering order and reliability when parking was mostly about compliance.

Then came 2020. The pandemic hit the sector hard. Overnight, traffic disappeared, behaviours changed, and our assumptions about parking’s role in daily life were tested. Rather than retreat, we rebuilt and redefined what intelligent parking could mean, turning disruption into a catalyst for smarter systems and better service.

In 2023, that transformation became official with our rebrand to Intelli-Park, and with it came a declaration of intent. We shifted from enforcement to enablement, from managing car park abuse to creating insight. Our technology stack was rethought with three goals in mind: to understand how each asset is used, to prevent misuse that harms genuine users, and to make the parking journey as simple as possible.

That rebrand marked a permanent change in how we think, build and deliver, and it set the foundation for the next era of parking intelligence.

From Data to Foresight

Every day, our systems capture thousands of parking events. On their own they’re just data points, but combined with time, context and location, they map behavioural patterns.

This is where our next generation of technology comes in, connecting the dots between visitor patterns and demographics. It also maps dwell times, peak usage and spend power. With this data we’re creating tools that give asset owners a real sense of what’s changing across their estates before it becomes a problem as well as enabling them to capitalise on any opportunities.

Imagine knowing in advance which car park will reach capacity, which areas are underused (and which suffer the most abuse), or where EV demand is growing fastest. This predictive approach is how we help clients stay ahead of the curve, spotting underuse before it affects income, detecting misuse before it causes friction, and identifying opportunities before they’re lost. That’s how we help clients stay proactive in a world where change happens faster every day.

The New Era of Parking Intelligence

Managing thousands of sites has taught us that every environment has its own rhythm. Recognising those nuances is why we design systems that adapt rather than dictate. The same operational intelligence that once guided our field teams, is now built into software.

At Intelli-Park, we’re using the shift to intelligent systems to redesign how our software works for asset managers and landlords. It’s not enough for platforms to collect data; they must understand it, refine it and make it actionable for real people managing real sites. Because information only has value when it drives action.

We are building an integrated environment where clients can see every aspect of their portfolio in one place. Live usage, revenue trends, rule breaches and service performance are all presented with clarity, giving users full control and confidence.

Building Technology that Feels Human

Good design isn’t about cramming in features for features sake. It’s about creating technology that makes complex operations simple. That’s why our development process always starts with one question: What does this solve and what benefits does this bring to the user?

Every module, dashboard and workflow must earn its place. The interface should feel intuitive whether you’re a facilities manager checking data once a week or a property manager logging in every hour. That discipline of design driven by purpose and the POPIT (People. Organisation. Process. IT) framework shapes every decision we make.

Our technology is only ever as effective as the people using it, so we build with their reality in mind to keep it human. As we move toward more intelligent automation, that balance between human need and digital speed will matter more than ever.

Parking Intelligence: Turning Insight into Impact

In today’s world, data and information are everywhere. The phrase data is worth more than gold” might be true but only if it’s mined, understood, and turned into something actionable. Raw data has no real value until it helps someone make a faster, better decision.

That’s the next part of the parking intelligence journey. As the world becomes busier and our time more stretched, we can’t afford to spend hours interpreting reports. We also cannot waste time chasing trends. While you're on your way to a meeting or working on all of those urgent tasks you need speedy insights and conclusions. We need answers in seconds, not hours and that’s where advanced technologies like AI will make the difference.

At Intelli-Park, our mission is to transform data into decision-ready insight that’s delivered at the speed of business.

Whether you’re managing a single car park or a nationwide portfolio, our systems will identify what matters most, putting the right insight in front of you, right when you need it. That’s how we turn insight into impact.
